Dry stonework is the
most historical and longest lasting means of construction. Dry stone structures rely on special construction techniques and gravity to remain intact. Mortar
and concrete are not used in dry stone work. Together these elements give it
the enduring qualities that allow for its hundreds of years of sustainability.
The “dry stacked” methods mean that the structure has hundreds or thousands of
joints that with a properly prepared base and stacking techniques, allow it to
tolerate and move with frost, freeze thaw cycles and other elements resulting in
the historic stonework defining our New England landscape today. We offer a
full range of dry stonework landscapes listed below with the authentic look and
feel of old time stone landscaping.

Bluestone
Fence
Raw slabs of
natural cleft and thermaled bluestone were cut using diamond tipped tools. The
mortise and tenon joints were milled into the posts for the old fashioned post &
beam style. This was accomplished with diamond core bits.
An alternate style can be achieved
by feathering and
wedging the posts out instead of the sawn and thermal finished look that
comes from the quarry. |
